Nip Slip 2019 is a limited production Stellenbosch red blend built aroundShiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourv*dre, combining ripe fruit, spice and savoury complexity with extended French-oak maturation. Production began with the 2019 vintage, with the blend developed to achieve a style that is simultaneously soft, spicy and powerful.

Shiraz provides much of the wine's generous fruit and supple texture, Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structure and depth, while Mourv*dre introduces an earthy, savoury dimension. The wine was then matured in French oak, adding further complexity and allowing the components to integrate over several years.

The bottle is a big part of the story too. The label artwork was created by South African artist Abe Opperman, whose illustration was designed around themes of elegance, sensuality and transformation. This 2019 bottling is individually numbered, with just 2,000 bottles produced. Tasting Notes Colour: Deep ruby red.

Nose: Ripe cherries, plum, blueberry and blackcurrant, developing into darker notes of liquorice, tobacco, vanilla and warm spice. Palate: Rich and velvety, with Shiraz-led ripe fruit complemented by Cabernet's structure and the earthier character of Mourv*dre. Layers of plum, cherry and dark berries are joined by chocolate, spice, leather and vanilla from the extended oak maturation.

Finish: Smooth and lingering, with dark fruit, spice, chocolate and savoury oak carrying through. The individually numbered release, unusual label artwork and long maturation give it considerably more personality than the name initially lets on. And yes, "Nip Slip" is certainly one way of making sure nobody forgets what wine they drank.
